Lilium

Lilium, which belongs to Liliaceae, has been in cultivation for more than 3.000 years.
There is a lot of bulbous plants who is named Lily, but a lot of those are belonging to other genus as for example Daylily (Hemerocallis), and different Daffodils (Narcissus).
Al plants at this site belongs to the genus Lilium.
There is more than 100 species in the genus Lilium, and from these al modern Lilies come of.
Lilium grows on the northern hemisphere. About 25 species grows in North America, about 10 in Europe, about 40 in China and the rest 25 in Japan, Nepal, Myanmar and Korea.
In the genus Lilium there are thousands of hybrids, and a lot of new comes every year.
The so called Asiatic hybrids are the easiest to grow. They just want an ordinary porous, not to moist soil.
The Oriental hybrids needs a well drained, acid soil, while the species treats different depending where and how they grow in nature.
